Service of Car Blessing  Rev. Bruce Graft  August 1988

PASTOR:   Brothers and Sisters in Christ:  Today we seek God’s blessing as we gather with thankfulness to bless these automobiles and our use of them to the glory of God.

PEOPLE:   AMEN

PASTOR:   All your works praise you, O Lord.

PEOPLE:   AND YOUR FAITHFUL SERVANTS BLESS YOU.

PASTOR:    let us pray:

Blessed are you, O Lord our God.  King of the universe.  You made the whole earth for your glory, all creation praises you.  We lift our voices to join the songs of heaven and earth, of things seen and unseen.

PEOPLE: GRACIOUS LORD:  I GIVE THANKS FOR THE GIFT OF THIS AUTOMOBILE FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONVENIENCE, RECREATION AND MY LIVELIHOOD.   HELP ME, LORD, OT USE THIS GIFT THOUGHTFULLY, CAREFULLY AND NEVER WHILE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL OF ANY CHEMICAL SUBSTANCE THAT MIGHT IMPAIR MY ABILITY TO SAFELY DRIVE THIS VEHICLE.  LORD, GIVE ME PATIENCE AND A LOVING SPIRIT, AND TAKE AWAY FROM ME ALL ANGER AND IMPATIENCE THAT MIGHT EITHER PUT OTHERS OR MYSELF IN DANGER. AMEN.

PASTOR:    Be with us now and bless us as we dedicate these cars and their use to the living and preserving of lives to your glory and praise.  Grant us faith of know your gracious purpose in all things, give us joy in them and lead us to us e all your gifts, including our cars, with wisdom, compassion, patience and love. Likewise, we ask and other forces that might prevent us from sane and safe use of these gifts. We ask this through you Son.  Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, on God, now and forever.

PEOPLE: AMEN

(All are asked to proceed to their cars and stand by them for the sprinkling of water.  The water is used as a symbol of blessings.  After the blessing, please return to the gathering place for the benediction and to receive your prayer card.)
